Materials Needed

  • Flour :1- 2 cups

  • Water

  • Bowl

  • Clown Image

  • Zipper Bag

  • Plastic Wrap (optional)

Let's Play!

**Warning: this activity is messy. It also involves a food item (flour) so make sure your child does not have any allergies prior to doing this activity.

  • To be on the safe side (especially if your child puts a lot in their mouths) bake the flour for about five minutes.

  • Once the flour has cooled, mix it with some water to make a paste. Do not add too much, you want it to be thick.

  • 6 months + (not yet standing on their own): lay the clown image in front of your child (tape it down if desired) and cover it in plastic wrap (this will extend the life of the image but is not absolutely necesarry)

    • Take a couple scoops of the paste and place it into the bag, sealing it shut. Have them drop it (or toss if they are able) onto the clown image!

  • 10 months + (standing on their own): Tape the clown image to an object (like a tree) Tape the plastic wrap on top.

    • Let your child take out a scoop of the paste. Show  them how toss it at the image of the clown. (for less messy option - place the mixture in a zipper bag). If they simply squish it on instead of throwing it, that's okay too - it all works to build motor muscles and sensory experiences!
