Let's Create!
-
Below we offer three different options for creating a Jack O Lantern so choose which one works the best for you and your child!
Option 1: Papier Mache (Most Difficult)
To begin, make your papier mache "glue." *For adults*
-
Combine 1/2 cup lukewarm water and 1/2 cup flour until clumps are gone.
-
Boil two cups of water and mix with flour/water mixture.
-
LET IT COOL (set in fridge to speed up)
-
Blow up the balloon and rip the paper into strips.
-
Once "glue" is cooled off, cover the balloon with strips of paper, sticking each strip on with glue.
-
Let harden. We recommend rotating the balloon to quicken process
-
Once hardened, paint like a jack-o-lantern!
-
When paint is dry, you can pop the balloon! (Take it out and dispose of to prevent choking)
Option 2: Jack O Lantern Balloon (Medium)
**As this activity involves a balloon, make sure you monitor your child during and after as popped balloons present a dangerous choking hazard**
-
To begin, blow up your balloon, we recommend using an orange one to go with the pumpkin theme.
-
Ask your child to paint a face on the balloon to look like a jack o lantern! This can be super simple, just eyes and a mouth or more complicated and detailed.
-
It may be challenging for your child to paint the balloon as they tend to move around but this is part of the fun! Encourage them to find a way to hold it stead on their own!
Option 3: Jack O Lantern on Paper (Easy)
-
This option is the most simple, ask your child to color in and draw a face on a pumpkin image. They could also use stickers in order to make the face.
