Camping is a fantastic and afordable outdoor adventure to enjoy with children of all ages! In order to ensure a smooth and memorable camping experience we have compiled a list of essentials for camping with kids to help make your trip unforgettable!
Packing Essentials
1. Tent
A spacious and sturdy tent is a must-have for family camping. Look for a waterproof tent that accommodates your family size comfortably. Depending on how waterproof your tent is, you may want to bring with a tarp large enough to fit underneath. The one below fits 8 people, has easy set up and it listed as water proof.
2. Sleeping Bags
Opt for cozy and weather-appropriate sleeping bags for a good night's sleep under the stars. Remember that even if it is warm during the day - depending on location it can still get quite cold at night. The sleeping bag below is perfect for kids - it is washable, glow in the dark and good for temperatures 50 and above.
3. Sleeping Pad/ Air Mattress
If you like to sleep on the ground jump over this suggestion but if your back can't quite handle "roughing it," choose a sleeping pad or air mattress that will give you support without taking up a lot of space. If you do use an air mattress, keep in mind that some need electricity to be inflated and some camping spaces do not have this available. A sleeping pad will take up less space and tend to self-inflate like the one below while an air mattress tends to offer more support. Great options for both are shown below.
3. First Aid Kit
Be prepared for any minor mishaps with a well-stocked first aid kit tailored for outdoor activities. Create your own or purchase a prestocked kit.
First Aid Kit Items
Band Aids in Varying sizes
Moleskin
Gauze
Ice Pack

6. Utensils
Remember to bring reusable plates, napkins, and utensils. At certain campsites, the rule is "pack it in, pack it out," which means you are responsible for your garbage! Hint - if you have old cooking and eating supplies that you are no longer using these are great for camping gear! If not, the option below may be a good choice!
7. Transportation for your little one
Depending on the age and mobility of your child, an easy way to transport your child from tent to lake or ice cream shop or whatever is a must! For general tent to..wherever travel a wagon can be a great option. If you are planning on doing some hiking, we highly recommend a hiking backpack like the one shown below.
